No better time than Taco Tuesday to promote this small business Mexican restaurant located in Laurel, Maryland.
Toucan Taco is a landmark in the Laurel area, opening back in 1972 with their original name Tippy’s Taco House, a local chain. Once the franchise agreement expired, they were forced to change names. This is the dive of all dive Mexican restaurants in the area. The food may not always be the prettiest but it sure is delicious.
I always order the El Toucan with spicy chicken- a super simple burrito filled with your choice of meat or beans, served with a quarter pint of their chili con queso or guacamole and a basket of salted chips or tostados. I dunk my burrito into the queso because why not?! My husband orders the sunken el toucan which is the same burrito mentioned above but covered in a spicy Mexican gravy. This is a knife and fork kind of burrito. The simplicity of these items, along with how delicious and flavorful everything is, makes Toucan Taco a local treasure.
